Manimala river, popularly called Manimalayar in Malayalam, is one of the important rivers in Kerala with a length of 92 km. Last week I made a short trip from Ponkunnam town to Manimala town, which covers a portion of the Manimala River.
This trip was part of my bike trips to cover less popular inland locations in Kerala.
I started my journey by 3 pm from Ponkunnam town.
While on the journey, I took some photos of the Manimalayar. Since it is the beginning of the summer season, you cannot expect the Manimalayar in its full beauty.
As you can see from the photos, the water level is low.
It is a picture of the Manimalayar check dam. I took a selfie from that location.
Due to the check dam, this part of the Manimala river has enough water.
There are rumors about the government's plans to build more check dams across the river to solve the water problems in the nearby areas.
Having more check dams will definitely help to retain water in the river in the summer season.
However, Manimalayar is notorious for floods in the Mansoon period.
